What is a “streetscape”?
In 2002, Alderman Vi Daley secured a commitment from the City of Chicago to fund more than $8 million in major improvements on Clark from Armitage to Diversey. Referred to as the “streetscape” project, the improvements included widening the sidewalk, installing new street lamps and trash receptacles, hanging new flower baskets from the street lamps, and planting new trees and other landscape. The “streetscape” project was completed in three phases. Phase one included improvements on Clark from Belden to St. James, and was completed in July 2004; phase two included the area from St. James to Diversey, and was completed in November 2005; and phase three included improvements from Belden to Armitage, and will be completed in October 2006.
